Weingut Keller Hipping Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2011 brings the distinctive character of Nierstein’s Hipping vineyard to the glass. The famous steep vineyard on the Red Slope is renowned for its red slate soils and Rieslings with pronounced minerality. Weingut Keller is one of Germany’s most prestigious producers and interprets this site with great precision. The 2011 vintage displays less youthful freshness and instead reveals the appealing maturity of an aged Grosses Gewächs.

On the palate, the Riesling is concentrated and multifaceted. Ripe citrus fruit, yellow peach and dried herbs combine with smoky notes and a distinctive, stony minerality. It has a clear, juicy structure on the palate. The acidity keeps the wine lively despite its age, while saline notes and a long, spicy finish add depth. This Hipping is no simple terrace wine, but a characterful, top-tier Riesling for discerning connoisseurs.

Serve it lightly chilled with pan-fried pike-perch, turbot or a rich bouillabaisse. Pan-fried scallops with a light sauce also complement its ripe fruit and mineral tension beautifully. The combination with poultry in a creamy sauce or mildly aged goat cheese is particularly interesting, with the Riesling’s subtle salinity complementing the cheese’s piquancy.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
