Weingut Ott Engabrunner Stein Grüner Veltliner 2018 comes from the renowned Kamptal estate of a family winery with a long tradition of natural vine care. The specific vineyard soil of weathered slate over limestone imparts a characteristic roughness and mineral character to the grape juice. The warm 2018 vintage resulted in fully ripe berries with balanced acidity, allowing the wine's typical spicy richness to mature optimally today. Complete hand-picking, natural fermentation processes, and strictly limited yields guarantee concentrated character without artificial overload.

In the bottle analysis, the wine presents itself as a pale yellow classic with distinct notes of yellow peach slices, citrus zest, and wet gravel. The subtle peppery accent particularly shapes the palate, which asserts itself with a firm texture, salty finesse, and persistent length. External observers regularly emphasize the clear readability of the site profile and the outstanding persistence of the varietal characteristics against the backdrop of modern winemaking.

The ideal drinking window is currently until 2033, although early opening already yields excellent results. Suitable food pairings include freshly prepared asparagus, grilled lake trout, and aged regional cheese. A serving cellar temperature of ten to eleven degrees Celsius optimizes the aroma and further highlights the fine acidic structure.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
