Tement Winery Zieregg Ried Sauvignon Blanc 2017 This white wine from Southern Styria represents the consistent natural wine approach of the Tement Winery, whose history significantly contributed to the establishment of organic winemaking in Central Europe. Characteristic features include controlled skin contact combined with spontaneous yeast fermentations and maturation in classic wooden barrels. The result is a complex style with significant body and a delicate tannin structure. The 2017 vintage benefited from a warm growing season and balanced moisture phases in late summer, leading to fully ripe phenolics and intense concentration. The specific quality of the Zieregg site provides calcareous-loamy substrates, which emphasize the typical minerality.

The sensory analysis first reveals a deep bouquet of grapefruit peel, wild fennel, dried Mediterranean herbs, and fine wet stone. On the palate, the elegant, present acidity stands out, flanked by granular tannins and a pronounced sea salt note. Fruit notes of ripe stone fruits mingle with slightly weathered citrus accents, while the finish is clear, cool, and long-lasting. This specific weighting significantly sets the product apart from standard market bottlings and appeals to connoisseurs of a sophisticated, earthy style.

For optimal harmonization, aromatically spiced pan-fried fish dishes, fresh goat cheese salads with basil oil, and steamed poultry in ginger-cumin marinade are recommended, as the herbal and mineral accents are particularly well accentuated here.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
