The Wittmann Morstein Grosses Gewächs 2009 unites the precise organic viticulture of a renowned Rheinhessen master winery with the unique sedimentary rock of the Morstein vineyard near Nackenheim. This dry top-tier Riesling adheres to the strict guidelines for the Grosses Gewächs predicate level and brings together all the ripeness characteristics of the warm summer, yet clearly receding, year. The specific soil composition of Rotliegend clay, marl, and quartzite sustainably shapes the flavor profiles, lending the label a characteristic saltiness and high structural power.

Tasting reveals a dense spectrum of ripe peach, wild herbal notes, and a distinct rocky earth tone, supported by a lean citrus structure. On the palate, the dryness unfolds harmoniously with a medium perception of sweetness and a clear, long-mineral finish that appears without any heaviness. For optimal flavor development, preparations such as pan-fried lake trout with spinach, marinated pork roast, or aged mountain cheese are recommended, as their salty nuances perfectly complement the complexity of the primeval sandstone.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
