Weingut Wittmann Morstein Grosses Gewächs 2014 stands as the pinnacle wine of the estate, embodying precision, purity, and substance. As a Grosses Gewächs, it represents the quality promise of the Morstein vineyard: a dry Riesling with clear structure, fine minerality, and the characteristic expressiveness of the Wittmann style. The 2014 vintage lends the wine a ripe fruit base and vibrant acidity, allowing it to maintain its balance while also showing potential for further development. This combination of vineyard, craftsmanship, and maturity makes the Morstein GG a wine of character within the estate's portfolio. The Morstein vineyard is considered strong in character and imparts depth, minerality, and freshness to the wine, setting it apart from many GG wines.

The tasting reveals a multifaceted profile: minerality, notes of citrus fruits and green apple, along with a delicate fruitiness supported by present yet well-integrated acidity. The wine appears compact yet transparent in its structure, with a long, clear finish that emphasizes its freshness. The balance between the ripeness of the 2014 vintage and the terroir-driven minerality makes it a wine that already offers pleasure but also has potential for development.

Food Pairing: Asparagus dishes, seafood, light Asian cuisine, and mild cheese complement the freshness and complexity of this Grosses Gewächs, while its clarity and vibrancy make its profile compelling.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
