Weingut Wittmann Morstein Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2019

The dry-matured Riesling Grosses Gewächs from Weingut Wittmann represents an excellent example of modern quality wine production from Germany. The outstanding Morstein parcel in Gimmeldingen provides unique character thanks to its soil-bound mineralization. The selected 2019 vintage offered ideal climatic conditions to preserve both intense fruit aromas and sufficient acid structure. Traditional cellar methods also support natural development and ensure long-lasting structures.

In tasting, a complex aromatic spectrum of ripe yellow stone fruit, light honey, and distinct minerality dominates. The texture appears particularly dense and velvety, closely paired with a long, lively acidic line in the finish. The recommended drinking maturity begins immediately upon opening but allows ample room for further aging until 2030. For the best taste experience, we recommend heartier main courses as an accompaniment. Very suitable pairings include poached trout in broth, fatty pork chops with a fresh herb crust, or aged milk cheeses with nuts.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
