Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1997 embodies the classic elegance of Tuscan Sangiovese in the Brunello style. Produced by the traditional Altesino winery in Montalcino, this Riserva excels at a concentrated, complex structure that gains depth with age. The 1997 vintage displays an elegant balance of ripe fruit, delicate spice, and gentle tannins, framed by a fresh minerality that reflects the terroir of the Montalcino region. Such wines demonstrate the longevity of the house: Altesino successfully combines subtlety with a restrained power, making this wine appealing to both lovers of classic Brunelli and those who appreciate long-aging wines.

Tasting Note: Dark cherries, plums, and dried fruits dominate the nose, accompanied by leather, tobacco, and herbal notes. The palate displays a silky texture, integrated, ripe tannins, and a fine wood spice; fruit, spice, and minerality combine for an elegant, persistent finish. The finish is long, warm, and carried by a balsamic note, further underscoring the typical character of a mature Riserva. Critical praise in specialist magazines emphasizes the excellent balance and potential of this vintage.

Food pairing suggestion: Ideal with slow-braised roast beef, osso buco, or game dishes, as well as aged cheeses. Serve at around 18–20°C to maximize the fruit, tannins, and spice.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
