Chateau Beychevelle 1986 represents one of the most traditional addresses in the Médoc and embodies the fine balance of structure and elegance that has characterized the Beychevelle winery for decades. The 1986 vintage is one of the striking moments of peak quality for this estate, which has been firmly established as a Grand Cru Classé since the 1855 classification. Its special appeal lies in the polished fruit, subtle oak influence, and stylish depth that further unfolds in the glass over time. Critical voices from Falstaff, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Winespectator emphasize the mature composition, complexity, and long-lasting potential of this vintage.

On the nose, the wine presents with dark fruit, cassis, plum, and a hint of tobacco, vehemently accompanied by subtle smoke and leather nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant, with silky tannins, well-integrated oak, and a mineral freshness that promotes length. The 1986 vintage reveals a harmonious balance between fruit, structure, and mahogany notes, with a long-lasting finish that ideally shows further development in the glass.

Food pairing: Lamb chops, roasted duck breast, or slow-cooked beef tenderloin with mushrooms pair excellently; an accompaniment with dark chocolate completes the experience. Serve the wine at around 16–18 °C and allow it to breathe a little before serving so that its nuances can fully develop.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
