Château Rieussec 2003 is an outstanding example of Sauternes wine. Its distinctive feature lies in the delicate botrytis character, which blends honey, apricot, and citrus into an elegant sweetness. Château Rieussec is considered a defining wine of the region, and the 2003 vintage displays ripe warmth paired with finesse. Yet, in the half-liter bottle, it unfolds an impressive depth that critics such as Falstaff, Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator regularly praise.

The tasting reveals a complex nose of honey, dried apricot, peach, and a hint of vanilla; on the palate, the texture is creamy, the acidity fresh, the sweetness concentrated yet balanced. Candied fruit, almond notes, and a slow, elegant finish characterize the profile.

The approximate drinking window is expected to be between 2010 and 2030; with proper storage, the wine will remain interesting well into the 2030s. Food pairing recommendation: foie gras, aged blue cheese, creamy desserts with almonds or honey, and fruit tarts.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
