Kollwentz Ried Kleinhöfleiner Katterstein Chardonnay 2019 presents itself as an elegant white wine from a distinctive vineyard site within the Kollwentz estate. The estate's biodynamic approach and the vineyard's structure ensure transparency, freshness, and fine minerality. The 2019 vintage displays clear fruit aromas of citrus, Granny Smith apple, and peach, accompanied by a cool character and subtle oak notes that lend the wine both vibrancy and focus.

On the palate, the wine unfolds a creamy texture, paired with a sparkling freshness. Notes of lemon, green apple, and pear meet a mineral, almost saline base, while an elegant spiciness extends the structure. The acidity remains crisp and juicy, the finish is long and lingering, leaving a vibrant yet refined freshness typical of the Austrian Chardonnay style.

The optimal drinking window is typically between 6 and 12 years after the vintage, although this wine is enjoyable even when young and will continue to develop over time. Food pairings include seafood such as scallops or pike-perch, creamy risotto, or light poultry with lemon butter – dishes that harmoniously complement the freshness, fruit, and minerality of this Chardonnay.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
