Podere Rocche dei Manzoni Vigna Cappella di Santo Stefano 1995 embodies the quiet strength of a winery steeped in tradition. The Vigna Cappella di Santo Stefano is situated on a sun-drenched hillside, where calcareous soils lend structure to the wine and a delicate mineral note to the terroir. The 1995 magnum vintage is a rare occurrence that rewards maturity and patience: the large format allows for slow aging, softening the bouquet and tannins while simultaneously revealing complexity. The winery's cellar craftsmanship emphasizes the characteristic elegance of this wine, which possesses a palpable authenticity in this historic vintage.

On the nose, ripe cherry, dried plum, leather, tobacco, and subtly smoky notes mingle with fine mineral undertones. On the palate, the wine displays a silky texture, well-integrated wood flavors, and velvety tannins, supported by a crisp acidity that lends the wine length. The complexity increases with age, but even today it presents itself visibly harmonious and elegant – a typical expression of the terroir and the house's meticulous cuvée. Critics often praise the balance of aging potential and grace, which this wine exemplifies in magnum form.

Food pairing suggestion: Serve it with slow-cooked lamb dishes, game stew, or truffle risotto; mature cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano also enhance the delicate leather and spice notes and extend the finish.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
