Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Masseto 2001 – an icon of the Bolgheri terroir, a pure Merlot from the renowned Tenuta dell'Ornellaia. The 2001 vintage impresses with its balance, depth, and remarkable structure, defining Merlot in this league. The uniqueness of this wine lies in the Masseto slope, whose clay and loam soils produce dense fruit, mineral tension, and long-lasting elegance. Critics such as Falstaff, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise Masseto 2001 for its potential and its fine harmony between fruit, tannin, and spice.

Tasting Note: Ripe black currants, plums, dark chocolate, and espresso on the nose, complemented by hints of leather and herbs. On the palate, the wine is opulent yet precise, with silky tannins, a creamy texture, and a remarkably long, layered finish. The complexity increases with age in the glass, while the finish gains in elegance. Food Pairing Suggestion: Accompany it with tender roast beef or fillet steak, game dishes such as venison or lamb with herbs, and aged cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
