Thomas Studach's 2020 Malanser Pinot Noir impresses with its cool elegance and fine Pinot Noir fragmentation from the Malans terroir. The winery combines meticulous handcrafting with a thoughtfully slow maturation process, allowing the 2020 vintage to develop complexity, freshness, and excellent aging potential. The magnum bottle facilitates a gentle development and enhances the wine's cellaring ability. Critics emphasize the balance of fruit, structure, and mineral finesse that makes the wine appealing even beyond its youthful exuberance.

On the palate, it displays a ruby red color with enticing notes of ripe cherries, raspberries, violets, and a delicate herbal hint. Silky tannins, vibrant fruit, crisp yet well-integrated acidity, and a subtle, lingering mineral finish complete the experience. The wine is both harmonious and complex, and will gain further depth in magnum bottles with age. Approximate drinking window: 2023 to 2030.

Food pairing suggestion: This goes well with lamb chops with herbs, sautéed wild mushrooms, or a creamy risotto with porcini mushrooms. The delicate fruitiness meets savory accompaniments, while the texture gives the dish structure. To finish, a small portion of dark chocolate or a mature cheese like Comté elegantly rounds off the experience.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
