The Keller Hubacker Auslese 2017 stands as a prime example of the uncompromising craftsmanship of the Keller estate in Rheinhessen. The Hubacker vineyard is known for its calcareous, mineral-rich soil, which imparts extreme purity, precision, and a noticeable salinity to the wine. The 2017 vintage brought warm conditions that allowed for ripe fruit without overpowering the characteristics of the Keller terroir. Critics such as Falstaff, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise Keller vineyards—especially Hubacker—for their precision, depth, and aging potential; they emphasize the estate's ability to combine extract-rich Rieslings with elegant freshness.

Tasting note: The nose opens with ripe yellow fruit aromas – peach, apricot, accompanied by honey, grapefruit-like freshness, and a hint of petrol. On the palate, the wine displays a rich yet finely balanced sweetness, supported by a firm minerality and a vibrant, lively acidity that guarantees length and freshness. It is now ready to drink and will typically continue to develop for several more decades – the wine will likely reach its peak until the 2040s. Food pairing: This Auslese pairs wonderfully with mature cheeses such as Gouda or Roquefort, foie gras, creamy desserts with peaches, or mildly spiced dishes like duck in honey sauce.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
